Wine and painting classes in Cincinnati area worth checking out

Wine is fine and working with paint is quaint. For some adults, drinking wine and painting are two activities that go great together. Though the Cincinnati market for this service is not saturated, the area does have a few great options. Some provide the wine and others are BYOB (bring your own booze) for people of legal age.

Wine and painting classes are the most well-known of the trend, but we also have some other types of boozy art classes around town, too. Any of these would be perfect for a fun and creative night out with your friends.

3434 Edwards Road, Hyde Park; arworkshop.com/cincinnati.

This workshop does not serve alcohol but allows students to bring wine and beer to class. AR Workshop is a do-it-yourself workshop that allows students to make home decor projects. These projects are customized with their choice of design, paints and stains. Home decor items that students can create include wood signs, Lazy Susans, porch signs, canvas pillows and chunky knit blankets.

In addition to scheduled classes, AR Workshop hosts group events, such as birthday parties and bridal showers. Their class schedule is listed online. Their projects range in cost from $40 to $95.

Locations at 2875 Town Center Blvd., Crestview Hills, and 9871 Montgomery Road, Montgomery; boardandbrush.com.

Both locations are owned by Tameryn Birch and offer art lessons and alcoholic beverages. At their wood sign workshops, students turn raw wood into finished products. Expert instructors guide students throughout each step in the workshop: sanding, distressing, staining, stencil painting and waxing. The students choose all their colors at the workshop. Their workshops are typically three hours long and aim to train students into becoming DIY experts. They are usually open Friday evening, Saturday in the day and evening, Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening.

Check out their calendar on their website to see their offerings. The studio offers pick-your-project packages that cost $68 to $73. They offer mini sign workshops and specialty classes such as rugs, porch planters and benches. Crestview Hills offers beer, wine, cider and seltzers. Cincinnati offers beer, seltzers and ciders. Beer and cider cost $4, and wine costs $6.

Each person chooses their subject matter to paint via homework assignment issued when the class is booked. The students use oil paint and get individual assistance during the three hours of painting.

The date night package offers couples the opportunity to work on a 24-by-36 canvas together. It costs $300 for a couple and an additional $45 if there is a third partner. There are two “intro/social” classes that provide each participant with a 12-by-16 canvas. One class accommodates up to four people and costs $300, and the other class accommodates up to eight people and costs $500. The “High-End Showpiece Class” costs $1,000 and provides a large canvas built to the requested size, so long as it fits through the door. They offer other classes, too, such as “Wine Wednesday.”
