Each judge in the many different categories of the Open Class Home Economics contests at the Morgan County Fair has certain things that they look for in the crafts, foods, projects and more that they are judging.
Vicki Christian, who was a judge for the adult hobby crafts contest, shared how she selected the top three among the craft projects entered in this category.
“This is how I placed them. For first place, the exhibitor did a wonderful job. What I like about it is the back looks as good as the front,” Christian said. “The other two are very fine pieces, but I felt that the detailing on the back needed to be covered up for the second-place piece. The third-place bunny is just so darn cute.”
Joy Friehauf, who served as clothing construction artistic judge, tells what she looks for in ribbon winners.
“I look for even seams, good tension on the sewing, and fabrics that is conducive to babies,” Friehauf said.
Knitting and crochet judge Robin Wilton had this to say: “I look for things like if they have been blocked, are the ends woven in properly. Is it wrinkly, and does it lay flat. Is it clean, and is it aesthetically pleasing.”
Open Class Home Economics judging was held Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush. The following are the results, as released by the Morgan County CSU Extension Office.
